Chuck Newell, RETIRED TO OREGON 2017 SUMMER! GOOD BYE AND THANK YOU!.... attended Austin High School. After leaving the Navy, he went to UT Austin and earned a degree in History. He and his wife, Elizabeth, have two sons, both of them coached by Rich Weigand at Austin High. After his sons graduated, he stayed involved with lacrosse by refereeing and serving as a volunteer assistant to Rich first at Austin High and then at LBJ. Since 2009, Chuck has coached our JV team, focusing on skill development and team building. Chuck retired from the Texas Association of School Boards in early 2013.
Club Founder:
Rich Weigand grew up playing lacrosse in Maryland, and then at Cornell University, where he graduated with a Master’s degree in engineering. He started the LBJ Ladies Lacrosse Club and was the team’s head coach for 9 years. He continues to be a valued advisor. He has been instrumental in the rapid growth of lacrosse in Central Texas coaching boys lacrosse at Austin High School from 1990 through 2001 then forming the LBJ/LASA girls lacrosse program in 2003. He was the head coach of our program through 2012. Our team won Central Texas District Division II Champions in 2007 and 2009. Rich assisted our coaches during the 2013 season. Rich and his wife Hester have two daughters who are LASA graduates and former LBJ Lacrosse Club players.
